Shri Chāmarajendra Cubbon Park Bangalore: Explore Nature & History

It was later called as Palace Zoological gardens. Primarily this zoo was called as 'Khasa Bangle' or ‘Private Bungalow’ and used to be a unique zoo which was spread over an area of 10 acres, housing different kinds of birds. It is known for breeding of rare animals which is a feature present in very few other zoos in the world.

There are approximately 6000 varieties of plants and trees in Cubbon Park Bangalore with around 68 genera and 96 species. Chamarajendra Wodeyar was installed in 1927 near the Tennis Pavilion which forms the central section of the park. Near the terrace garden, statue of Major General Sir Mark Cubbon is situated. For instance, in one corner of the park, near the Mahatma Gandhi Circle statue, of Queen Victoria was installed in 1906 while the statue of King Edward VII was installed in 1919.

Established in 1870 by Sir Richard Sankey, the then Chief Engineer of Mysore, the park was later named after Sri Chamarajendra Wadiyar, the former ruler of Mysore.
